After the departure of the Poor Clares in 1861, the building changed its use to Prison, Shelter, Orphanage, Charity Hospital, School of Medicine, Fine Arts Workshop and Baseball School until 1974.
From that year the building was the seat of some government entities and then it went through a remodeling process until 1995 when it opened the Hotel Sofitel Santa Clara in the event of the Summit of Non-Aligned Countries.
